Why being busy isn’t always a good thing

I’m going to start off by mentioning, those of you who know me, I am fully aware of the fact that when anyone asks me how I’ve been, my automated response usually is “oh I’ve been so busy.” It is true, I have been extremely busy and non stop for several months now. I always counteract the fact that I’ve been so busy by saying “well I don’t mind I like being on the go.”

Truthfully, I love being on the go, I love having something to do a lot of the time. However, we as humans need to stop using “busy” as a synonym for ‘doing well.’

Being busy doesn’t always necessarily mean that you’re efficient. In fact sometimes having so much to do can mean that you become inefficient.

When you’re constantly busy, although you’re getting things done, you’re also putting other things on the back burner.

When I have lots of stuff to do, my time management tends to go down the drain; I focus primarily on my latest tasks and prioritise the wrong things in the wrong order.

Being busy and successful is so incredibly important – working as hard as you possibly can will be beneficial in the long run, however it is vital to take time out for yourself.

If you find that you spend a lot of time complaining about how busy you are, take some time out for yourself and indulge in some self care. You’ll be much more focused and prepared to work hard if you simply prioritise your health and well being first.

  1. I’m Debbie and I work for Cambridgeshire-based charity, Magpas Air Ambulance. I stumbled across your blog and wondered if you’d be doing a Christmas section with some lovely festive ideas!

We have a charity shop in Huntingdon and also this month we opened a boutique charity shop in Cathedral Square, Peterborough which specialises in vintage & retro items. In the run up to Christmas we’re seeking leading bloggers in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who would be willing to write a short blog post about the shops. Ideas for an article could include:

Christmas party outfits – vintage clothing, shoes, bags.
Finding unique/alternative Christmas gifts on a budget (such as vintage jewellery, vintage clothing, vinyl LPs, pre-loved homewares)

In return we could share your post on our social media channels (Facebook, 7,000 followers; Twitter, 7,000 followers; Instagram, 450 followers) to draw interest to your blog.

A little more bit about us…

We’re an air ambulance charity bringing specialist emergency care to people in life-threatening situations which was founded in Cambridge in 1971. We cover the East of England (primarily Cambridgeshire & Bedfordshire) and further afield and we’re the only air ambulance charity in the region available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our head office is in Huntingdon and our medics, helicopter and rapid response vehicles operate from RAF Wyton. Last year we responded to almost 1,500 emergency calls and gave specialist care to 884 patients. We receive no government or NHS funding and rely on the generous support of our local community.

As a thank you, we’d love to give you and your family a VIP tour of our operations base at RAF Wyton to see our orange helicopter and meet our doctors and paramedics, if that’s something you’d like to do 

Thank you for your time, and hope to hear from you soon.

    Best wishes Debbie Florence
